Why doesn’t a plunge bra suit me anymore?
Let’s look at why plunge bras may not be working for you—especially if they used to fit but no longer do. If you’ve noticed your plunge bra gaping or just not sitting right, you’re not alone!
Fuller on the bottom? You’re not alone!
If your breasts are fuller at the bottom than on top (like mine!), you might find that plunge bras don’t suit you as well. By design, plunge bras cut across that flatter area, and there may not be enough tissue to fill out the cup. This is especially noticeable with moulded bras.
And guess what? That’s totally normal. All breast shapes are normal!
But it used to fit—Why not anymore?
If you’ve recently been fitted into your correct size, you might find that plunge bras no longer work the way they used to. When your cup size was too small, the bra might have been sitting in the wrong place, which gave the illusion of a better fit. Now that you’re in your true size, it’s clear that this style might not be for you anymore—and that’s okay!
Don’t let bra styles define you
It can be hard when a style you used to wear no longer works. Society has conditioned us to link our worth to our size and shape, and unfortunately, the fashion industry has only normalized a few styles of bras—plunge being one of the most common.
But your body is unique, and it’s always changing. That’s a good thing! You are not your bra size, and you are not defined by any specific bra style.
What could I wear instead?
If plunge bras aren’t for you, there are plenty of other styles to explore! My personal go-to styles include:
- Balcony/half-cup bras – They cut across the chest where your breast tissue starts to fill out more.
- Balconette bras with stretched lace – These offer more coverage than a half-cup, and the lace fits smoothly to your chest (also great for asymmetry and size fluctuations!).
- Triangle bras – These have a similar neckline to a plunge, but with little to no gore and a higher apex.
- Full cup bras – Some full cups can also work well, especially in the right material.
These styles can offer a more comfortable fit if your boobs are fuller on the bottom. The key is to find what works best for your shape—and that’s always worth exploring!
