How should I wash my bras?

“If someone tells me to hand wash my bras one more time…!”

Sorry, but that’s exactly what I’m here to tell you to do!
Before I get into the whys—if you’d rather just know my Top Tip, here it is:

💡 Wash them in the shower with you!
It’s an age-old trick I learned when I started working at Bravissimo, and I’ve been doing it ever since.
(I’ll mention other easy ways to soak them later too!)

“But whyyyy, Jen?” I hear you cry.

As a general rule, the main reason for hand washing your bras is to make them last longer.

Have you ever noticed:

  • Wires popping out?
  • Misshapen cups?
  • Wires digging in or becoming distorted?
  • Ruined lace?
  • Frayed elastic?
  • Discolouration?

The heat and movement from washing machines (yes, even with a lingerie bag, even on a cool cycle!) can cause all of the above.

  • The fabric casing that holds the wire shrinks in heat, causing wires to poke out.
  • The protective paint on wire tips can wear off with repeated heat exposure.
  • Moulded cups can get twisted out of shape by the spinning drum.

And it’s not just the washing—how you dry your bras matters too.
🚫 Tumble dryers and radiators are a no-no.

So How Should You Wash Your Bras?

Like I said—wash them in the shower with you!
Then rinse with cool water, and leave them to drip dry.

Another great option?
Try Soak Wash, an eco-friendly laundry soap that’s popping up everywhere.
It’s basically like a leave-in conditioner for your bras—no rinsing required! Just a 15-minute soak, and it smells amazing.

🧼 How Often Should I Wash My Bras?

That depends on:

  • How much you wear them
  • What you’ve been doing in them

Probably once a week in the shower should do it. But if a shower wash isn’t cutting it, try soaking them with hand wash detergent to keep them fresh.

Final Thoughts

Trust me—when you’ve taken the time to get properly fitted and spent money on good bras, you’ll want to care for them properly to keep them looking and feeling their best!
